Juniper Squamata Nursery stock pruning/shaping advice

ok, forget all the fusing and stuff, lets keep it simple.

what ya want to do is as the mudmap shows.

green is the apex, that didnt change,

red line cuts that left hand tail off, keep a stub so you can jin it. there was that thin branch that came from under the purple arrow branch that went across, that can go, its no good.

purple aroow points to which branch you use as the new cascade branch and the purple arrow from the trunk shows how you want to wire it, as close as possible without snapping it.

dont worry bout fusing or slicing or anything like that, just keep it simple for now mate

Unfortunatley that rear branch is most of that new apex, so removing will look something like this. Guess it will fill out though over time. That's why I thought you were meaning use the branch you selected to chop as the new trunk line by bending it down and fusing it.

ahhhh ok im with ya now... that changes things alot, dont go chopping anything yet, we will have to change game plan. i will get back to ya mate

ok now i got ya with everything it is gonna take a little longer to fill but thats ok this is what i would do, the pics are pretty self explanatory so you should get them pretty easy

this is what i would do now, it will make better for the trees line i think too.

blue arrow gets wired up, it becomes the new apex. green arrow shows the branch that becomes the new cascade branch, this should work out well.

remove that back branch that we were going to use as the new apex but turns out will be no good. that might make more sense, let me know what you think before you do it and if there is anything that wont work

What about if I was to take the far right branch and turn it around to form the new cascade instead of chopping it. The I could use the middle of the top three branchs for the new trunk line, which it already follows quite well. Then chop that little one on the left.?

that will work, thats what i think i was trying to explain, then once that is done, just feed and water and let it grow right out, and for this i think ot go back out into a growing box/pot would definately be a good thing to mate

Was commenting on a new thread, thought I would update this one.

The plant died.

It was from direct neglect, my fault, I know I could have saved it, work and bills come first though. Disappointing indeed.
Though I blame myself.


No real point updating, but thought if i'm going to start a thread I should finish it for the benefit of all.

Hi Mitchell, it is dissapointing to hear about the demise of your Juniper, I have no doubt you will snuff a few more because if you don't, then you must be doing something wrong. If you have learned anything at all from the tree, then it is still valuable to you in death. I managed to snuff a pretty good one that wasn't mine this year, which cost me a few dollars.

Hey Mojo, as far as I can tell, it is all a learning experience.
I do though strongly feel however, the more costly your mistake, the better it is learned.
