Repotting for newbies (like me)

Post by Ron »

As Graham says in the following video, repotting is something that makes me as a newbie very nervous due to lack of experience.

This is probably the best video I've come across for beginners although I think Graham should've shown putting the holding wires in place.

Ron if you look again you will see at the 8 minute mark, a wire going across the root . It is the same on the other side. Then with a pair of pliers you tighten it, if it is going across a heavy root put some protection on the root. Then you cover them so the are not seen.

Cheers :) Pup

Thanks, Pup. You see so much more on a second viewing especially when you're not talking to the family accountant (ie wife) on the phone at the same time. ;)

Excellent Video. The best I have seen Graham is a legend at these demo videos. I think it is also a great refresher for the experienced as well.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Brett I agree about the video being good. It does show what is needed to understand when doing a re pot on a deciduous tree.

Not having bothered to watch too many of these you tube ones cos our system was slow it is now faster so I watch.

Is there one out there for the newbies as they call themselves on Coniferous as well.?

Cheers ;) Pup

Hate the word myself, Pup, but it's 'web-speech'. This guy is my favourite on YouTube:

What did you learn from these Guys Ron??. After watching Graham, I know who would be doing my trees if needed.

Putting a tree in a pot that has not been cleaned!! is questionable, the amount of salt stain around the pot would set off alarm bells.
He did not need to prune the roots to put it in that pot. As for bunjingi that is questionable.
Just my opinion though, Pup

I love this video which is such a contrast, Pup. So very neat and so very Japanese. Parts 2 & 3 are only in Japanese but they are still are joy to watch and I think it's easy to get the idea.

That guy had me in hysterics Ron. What a cracker. Love his soil rake  I thought I was messy when repotting. Try a different implement to scoop

These are what are known as Kusamono grass, plantings using grasses and other plants to create a pleasing scene. Also they are used as accents to larger trees.
Did you notice the nice trees in the Tokanoma.
