Another repotting season

Thought i better start some. Chinese elms are always the first to bud here. I also noticed some swelling in a red maple. Knocked over some of the shohin. Mostly elms and tridents.More next weekend if it aint pouring.

Hey Matthew, you certainly have some lovely trees. I find any update of your collection something to watch out for.

Some trees have lichen on the branches - which I’d find attractive. Am I right in my understanding that Lichen does not damage the trees and is essentially a personal preference re: aesthetics?

I find it does not damage the trees but i do try to keep it under control. Some species seem to attract it more or it may just be placement etc. It does add to age i think but again its a personnal preference as i would try to avoid it on old pine plated bark or a old cedar etc.

Agreed it doesn’t damage the trees I personally really like it. But as Matthew stated it would be impossible to remove from trees like Pines with bark plates. Easier to remove from smooth barked trees just use an old tooth brush.

I ended up doing a few more early morning before farm chores took hold. Most of the smaller trees down. Larger ones next that means more soil and more back pain.

I'm totally sticking to smaller trees for that reason (back).

I started on the smaller bonsai today. There is some signs of buds swelling on Chinese elms and trident maples here even though it is still quite early.
