Re: Sno’s class of 2020
So the weather was fairly ordinary today and I live in NSW so I decided to drive to Cooma which is about 70 ks away for a dig .
The weather turned while I was potting them up so . To be continued ..

Re: Sno’s class of 2020
Hi Rory . Interesting times , I never would of thought I would miss Vic . ‘ Respect ‘ for the people and there families doing it tough down south . Hopefully we will get through this .
Watto , what are my chances with plums when I chop off roots like this ?
One becomes two Photos aren’t the best ,it was pretty miserable outside . The middle trunk was dead and rotten down to nearly the base . The second one is still attached to what is left of the stump . I was thinking of leaving more of the stump but I figured if it lives by the time I put into a pot in 4 or so years it would of rotted away too much .

Re: Sno’s class of 2020
As a rule of thumb plums are tough. They grow from root cuttings and that attribute indicates that throwing roots out is done readily. On the negative side it's a largish trunk so that makes it more difficult. So that means I'm 60% confident of success.
Of course I hope it thrives, for the sake of the plum collecting community.

You certainly go from one extreme to the other Sno, first that big plum you dug and now this tiny elm. I suppose the digging of the plum would have kept you warm in that "ordinary" weather. Good luck with it.

Thanks RB , I prefer the smaller ones , but plums are all Watto’s fault he keeps telling us how good they are , so I had to join the P A C ( Plum Appreciation Club ) I am looking forward to the fruits of my labour.Raging Bull wrote: ↑August 23rd, 2020, 2:12 pm You certainly go from one extreme to the other Sno, first that big plum you dug and now this tiny elm. Re: Sno’s class of 2020
Trident maple that got badly frosted a couple of years and the top died off . Who knows it could end up being a more interesting tree . I put it into a nursery flat and figured while a was changing the top I would approach graft some new roots onto it to improve the nebari . This year I removed the top off 3 of them . There was one I removed last year which is started to blend in nicely .
