Hi all,

Relatively new to Bonsai.

I've got a mix of trees - figs, crabapples, bougies and natives

I bought some fertiliser baskets today for my trees and was looking to see what you guys would place in there? Happy to make a mix up

I fertilise 2nd weekly with Charlie Carp

Located in Brisbane

I use any organic fertiliser from the garden centre, shove it in there and away you go. Trees aren't fussy.

Any pelletised fertiliser will do as Watto said.

I've never done this but feel free to if you want to have your own organic fertiliser cakes. For Japanese fertiliser cakes, the recipe is usually 4 parts cottonseed meal (soybean meal is a substitute), 1 part bone meal, 1 part fishmeal (can use some charlie carp instead) with a touch of flour and water to make it sticky. These are usually deodorised, rolled into balls and dried out.

Azalea or fertiliser for plants that prefer acidic conditions is slightly different. The fertiliser they use is 11:5:0.5 of cottonseed meal, bone meal and muriate of potash.
