Gossiping Channel - for the Literati Competition

Post by dany »

I realized that it is only 5 days before the Literati Competition closes. It's good that Pup clarified about the closing date and reminding contestants to submit final products. I wish I have joined earlier. Oh well, lets hope that there is another one next year. For the mean time, lets keep the spirit of the competition going - who want to have a guess at which entries will win?

My prediction is the Juniperus Squamata..Blue Star Literati in the aged styled stock as it looks good as a literati and also haved changed quite a lot from entry.
What are your predictions and what make you think it should win :?:

My bet is on the "Dragon Rising' Juniper procumbuns in the aged styled section for similar reason and also because I like the nontraditional looks and movements of this tree in literati style.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

Nice one Dany :tu:
If you are talking about Bodi's tree I agree both his will be hard to beat :hooray:
Is it Kvan that has the very tall Gum. I like this too. I think the top needs a little refining for balance but it sure does make a statement which is a big part of Literati I reckon.

I will have to get my act together and post two final images. I want 2 more months with the aged section tree  . Never remember the name of that tree :palm:

I didn't get anywhere with my Gum It is in amongst the rest of my gums that don't get enough care. They need so much water in their current condition and I hardly water them at all  Yet they still keep keeping on like troopers. Just not getting anywhere with them.

I was planning on getting my mate Pol to help me repott it and show his methods and after care as he has great success. Then agian maybe it is my before repotting care that lets me down :palm: :?:
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Cool Bretts. Thanks to let me know that one is now given to me
As to my opinion on this tree, I always have high respect for native and natural style. I can't wait to see it's final pics.
Cheers,
DK

I will have to dig in the bunch of gums and find my entry tomorrow. Maybe the pixies have been working on it for me  If you ever visit my garden I will be sure to give you one of the gums as a welcome present :tu:
It is Watto's tall gum that I was thinking of viewtopic.php?f=122&t=2788

I would love to visit your garden when I have a chance to head out that way Bretts. I also want to see your big firethorn other trees in the flesh too.

We will have to do a house swap one day
Now that is a great idea actually. Who better to look after your trees when away on holidays but the person who's trees you are looking after ;)

Jus a query, I am noticing a lot of trees getting posted lately for this comp, and they don't seem to have an apex, can anyone tell me why? Not having a go, it just seems a theme, to me they just look bald.

Ha Ha Both mine have a bend at the top but if you remember I was hoping for a bud on the top of the Pine to create an apex but haven't got it yet. I think it is a common feature on Literati though. Would be interesting looking through some pics again.

Yeah, I do recall, but I dont think it is only you, I think there were others. Not saying it's wrong, was just an observation.

I like a crown on my trees, and it is just a preference.

Just looking through a literati bunjin bonsai google image search now and at a guess there is about 1/3 with a bend at the top. I like my clero with the bend at the top and don't think I will ever change that but I am disappointed that both my trees are the same. I will find an apex for it some way in the future. Something I forgot to mention in my final post :palm:

I prefer literati to not have any foliage at the apex myself.
Same goes for cascades too.
