[category 2] Clerodendrum inerme on rock

Post by Jamie »

well i thought this one was worth entering aswell since i have my other one in :D this one had a rather odd nebari if you want to call it that, it basically barred out left and right from the trunk, Rod had a spot on rock for this one so it has been attatched to that for the past couple of months, i have had this one since the middle of january. so it hasnt been in training long.
it is developing quite nicely and is attaching to the rock quite well and branch structure and pad development is going well. i think this one has been a little slower then my triple trunk as it is having to fill a bigger area with roots and hasnt established itself in the grow box yet, it will be pulled up at the end of the year, clean up and decided on whether it goes back in for a year more :D

unfortunately i dont have pics of the tree in between then and now, but i am happy with overall growth and how far it has developed on it so far.

feel free to comment :D

Nice trunk movement Jamie. You will have to do something with that lump in the trunk though. i dont think it will grow out. It might be wise to nibble out now. I know it will not make the trunk look as impressive but when i first looked at it i was drawn to the area straight away.

yea i have been a bit touch and go with that scar that has been left from the removal of a trunk, i have been tempted to get the rotary out and have a go at it but have also been worried bout taking away from the tree, i do think some dead wood will help the overall look though, i am just going to have to be cautious as to how much i take i think, it is less sever at a slightly different angle, i will get some more shots from different degrees, might be able to find a slightly better front hey bodhi :D

thanks mase :D good to see ya on again :D

Hi Jamie,
good to see you putting some trees on rocks this is a really fun style and they take ages to develop so best get started asap. You should be putting figs on rocks to as they lend themselves so well to this style.

ok just updated my first post with two extra pictures, one is a side profile to show the offending buldge bodhi picked up on (insert sheepish grin here) and a shot of a front that will be possibly a better choice i think, thoughts on this people?

hey craig, i have a fig going on a rock aswell it is bout 5 months in development so i would dare say that the tree is starting to cling to the rock well ;)
im not sure what sort of fig it is though, it wasnt labelled at the nursery and its leaf i havent been able to identify it yet, i might get some pics soon.

I know what you mean Jamie..but does it take care of the problem as the tree should please the eye from all angles. :?:
