A rye smile crosses my face.... I am in the process of purchasing some young plants at $15 a pop. It comes with no pot, no top dressing and does not look like a tree or clump ... yet.

Yet... it is good value - in my mind - chojubai that started life in good hands with a knowledgeable grower (Shibui). When I was a little newer to this sport I purchased all sorts of stuff .... I am trying to be more selective as time passes and knowledge increases.

I say ‘trying’... sometimes I still buy cr@p that I don’t need when I wander around local nurseries...

Here’s another one I spotted today while picking up some supplies... maybe I got this all wrong and plastic bonsai is the future!?! If I’m going to buy a plastic one though at least it could have reasonable taper and some nice branching ... it’s not like I can grow it on and fix it! Maybe it’s a beginner plastic bonsai and as you get more experience with plastic you trade up to better quality plastic bonsai?? :lost:
