Neagari Forest.

Hi all ,Have been experimenting with a old Chinese Elm , trying to convert it into a Neagari Forest. A couple of straight sections but altogether pretty pleased how it is turning out. Unsure of what side to use as the front ? Still a fair way to go ,nice to have it in a pot instead of a polly box. Cheers John.

When I saw the heading I could not imagine how a neagari forest could look good, but as usual boom, you've created an awesome and wild looking composition. Almost has a magrove feel to it.

Well played. I’m with Frank and others - I can almost see it moving ... I’m probably offending someone here by making the wrong comparison but it reminds me of tangled mangrove roots or something akin to that.

There was another thread that got closed down recently but it touched on a discussion as to whether it was good or bad for the ‘artist’ or perhaps I’ll say “horticulturist’s” imprint to be on their trees - I say yes, it’s good. I enjoy it when I think that oh .... that looks like a Boom or a Treeman or a PeterH or a Sno or a.... very cool. Thanks for posting John. Inspiring stuff.

Hi John . The tangled web of life . Was this originally the bottom half of the roots that what was left of a root pruned potted ,old chinese elm ?
Regarding the front it looks like there is interesting things happening on all sides .

Yes ,it’s a great idea . It would be hard to actually ‘Weave ‘ a design like this .

I'd go for 1. Nice composition, nice imagination. You might see it as a "Boom64" work, but it looks very natural and unforced to me.

Thanks for the feedback guys .It has been a fun project. Only another couple of years to go They are just a great species to do nearly anything with. Originally it was a stand alone Exposed Root Chinese Elm tree ,one of many i started years ago. Always liked the unconventional styles . It really was not going anywhere and languished out on the backbenches. To boring up top.
Mark and his love of forests originally got me motivated to try this. Cut all the roots at the trunk and managed to separate the the bottom roots to a much wider spread. Let the new tops grow and gradually wired the new leaders over the next couple of years. At each repot i spread and exposed more roots.
Spot on with your call Craig. Pretty hard to get the look with several trees matted together. Or maybe someone will have a go and prove us wrong.
I sure can see the association with the Mangroves ,funny how you look at something daily and never notice.
Hi Squat Jar the pot came from Bonsai South many years ago. Originally was for a big Fig .
