Hi all,

I bought a Ginkgo 13 years ago in Melbourne and since then it has kicked about our backyard. I should have been repotted about 4 years ago; but I got sick didn’t I. It provided shade in summer for some fish bowls so it wasn’t urgent but today I got on with it. I root pruned and potted the tree; its root system was not great, probably overwatered somewhat, but there was enough good roots for a stable base. More photos in a few weeks when it has stabilised and put out more growth. The buds had already burst.

Glad to see Ginkgo getting love in the bonsai world! Will you keep it is a taller tree or end up cutting it back down to do the classic flame shape?

I've been thinking about trying to create a more true to form tree style ginkgo bonsai of late rather than the usual flame shape, but it's hard to find the material for it that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Hi,

I have cut it down for a semi flame shape, finishing about 1mtr high.
