nothing from my part of the country, but a trip to the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection was good value for colour.

These are just phone snaps taken in the sunlight to capture the colour only. Crepe Myrtle is nearly always the only decent thing I see with colour in my garden, because I don't have liquidamber, the only other reliable tree. Ornamental grape is bright this year, probably because it's been out in the night air without any cover. My Japanese and Trident Maples are, as always, disappointing, but at least they're alive!

Crepes are the best, they do well in Brisbane and even Cairns, except for powdery mildew if you don’t have a resistant type. Mine up in the previous post lost a lot of its leaves before the colour kicked in. My other one got lovely colour but I didn’t take a 2nd photo when it was bright pink and now it’s bare.

I was at the National Collection today and snapped this English Elm. Probably a few days past its peak but none the less I thought it look fantastic.

Looks like you were a couple of days early Mel and me, well a couple late.

I reckon you were spot on with timing for the broom Watto. Love that yellow!

This swampy turns a nice bronze colour ... it’s a long way from being anything amazing in a bonsai sense but it’s still nice to admire the colours as it progresses and also the vibrant green of the new growth in spring.

And that English elm with its yellow leaves is a beauty.

After initially thinking I had killed it. I later found out that dawn redwoods are the only redwoods to lose leaves in winter. Its not the most vibrant of colours. However, I think its quite a beautiful bronze and when the sun hits it it glows really nicely. Since its the only piece of colour in my collection so far I thought I would share it.
