White Poplar “alba”

Post by Bonsaiforest »

Hi,
I picked this raw stock from a local nursery, absolutely love the silver bark & textured pattern.
I’ve never worked with Piplar before and finding it difficult to find info on them.
Questions….???
1. Best time to root prune….???
2. Can I cut back branches back hard to short stubs now in Winter, or is there a better season to do this. Hoping that it will back bud so I can select & utilise newer shoots to create more movement than its current leggy state.
3. What bonsai styles are suited to Poplar varieties
4. Do they ground layer as I’d like to create new nebari as there isn’t much at the moment.

Any help and guidance would be appreciated
Thanks

Here are the pics. Don’t be discouraged as this stock has not had any work done to it yet. Waiting on your thoughts before the tools come out of the bag….!!!
