Summer update. Contrary to some comments regarding shallow pots on another post, I'm finding that my shallow pots are rarely drying out. I think it was Bjorn who described it like a sponge. You put a wet sponge down flat, it takes ages to dry, but you put it up on its side and it drains quickly.

My current approach to weeds is to 'mow' them... I'm thinking of creating a bonsai mower, called the mini mowa, for just such purposes.
