Looking for some initial advice on this large tree!!!

Post by gr8bookworm »

Hi all,

I picked up this Hawthorn from Leigh at Ledanta Bonsai in january this year and just kept her fed and watered until now.

i wanted to start to do some work on it but would like to seek all your advice on where to go to from here.

it is easily the largest tree I own and I hope someday will make a really nice tree for my small but growing collection of Bonsai-in-training.

The tree is about 1.4m to the tip of the tallest branch and it is about 34cm circumference at the base.

Hi Mark, I can't really help mate, but have attached a website that has some very interesting bonsai progressions that are all worth a read.
The first two progressions are of Hawthorn's and you may find some info for how to approach this species etc here?...that is unless you have read them before and intimately know this species?
Anyway, good luck mate and I hope the link helps...http://www.karamotto.org/?page=13
Cheers, Dario. :)

Hi Mark, I realise that it hasn't even been a year since you posted, but I was wondering on the initial direction you took with this stonking hawthorn?
Any details or pics much apprecieated! :tu2:
Cheers, Dario.

Last night I searched Harry's entire sight to try and find the elm progression, and although he has updated pics, it looks like he has removed the detailed progression that I nb reading a while back .
I am specificly interested in seeing how he widened the base of this tree to induce taper as I can't recall the exact process he used.
Any info (or a link if it still exists) would be great!
