Hi all,
Picked up a Osmanthus delavayi 'Pearly Gates' today. Not alot of info on the internet of it being utilised for bonsai but I thought I'd give it a crack regardless. Appears to have small firm serrated leaves and a interesting bark. Can anyone shed any light on any experience they have had with it?
From what I have researched so far the 'Pearly Gates' form is a dense bushy form of Osmanthus that will produce masses of tubular white and sweetly fragrant flowers. It has a zigzag form to its growth and flowers in late winter And early spring.
Wikipedia tells me the standard Osmanthus delavayi is a species of flowering plant in the olive family Oleaceae. It is an evergreen shrub native to the Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan regions of southern China, and widely cultivated as an ornamental in temperate and subtropical zones elsewhere.
Cheers,
Pearcy.
