Privets - Weeds?
Some lady dug these up and chucked them away. They have been bare-rooted for some two days before I found out. Seem to be ok since there is green and moisture in the bark. The lady said council listed them as weeds recently on their weedlist. Does it mean we can't grow them?

Re: Privets - Weeds?
It means they are not allowed to be sold.
So long st they not allowed to flower then set seed all is good. As a bonsai we do not let them so they are oK as far as I am concerned. Some don't like them tho
You cannot enter a declared weed into the Easter Show Bonsai section, as they are a declared weed
ps forot to add, Good score Keep the water up to them and you should be ok if they have not dried out too much. Seasol will help them recover

some of the school members have had Privet rejected as an entry to the show. One was resubmitted as a "Ligustrum" i believe and got in
Apparently it is not all Privet types are declared weeds tho.

Re: Privets - Weeds?
Anyone had their privet bonsai seed?
I wish people would do the seed-chop on Agapanthus, wonder if anyone is on the agi-patrol now that they have entered the blue mountains national park?

Re: Privets - Weeds?
for some reason there is no chance of any sort of competing in this stateJordy wrote:any form of competitions in Tasmania?
in south tas i was pushing for meeting comps like the way illawarra does, with "put a chip under your favorite tree", and different categories so a novice doesn't feel trod on. even the public vote for thier favorite tree at the shows... but to no avail

Re: Privets - Weeds?
That seems a little bit silly to me. Why wouldn't you want to enter competitions etc? Join in with the other states?aaron_tas wrote:for some reason there is no chance of any sort of competing in this stateJordy wrote:any form of competitions in Tasmania?

Surely that's something we can change, Aaron? You, Jordy, myself... and I'm sure we could get others on board!

Re: Privets - Weeds?
Sorry to bring this up, but the bark in the photos does not seem very consistent with Ligustrum. Could you take some photos of the foliage when it appears?

The lady told me they are privets but I hope you are right as it may turn out something else and not a "weed". Some people said they could be jasmine. If they grow foliage, I will definitely post photos so that people like yourself could help me identify them.
Thanks heaps.
