It's starting to develop rough bark in some of the branches. A very exciting time - for me....

Rough. Rugged. Bold. Different. I’m sure why but quite often, in my eyes, hanging branches add so much to some designs - like this one. Especially when the said branch has so much movement and interest. Mike - is the bark stripped at the top of the hanging branch to create a rough look when the bark grows back over? Or is there another reason?

Yes that's the reason Mark - a little shari to age it as fast as possible. Although I wouldn't want the new bark to grow over it - I think.....MJL wrote: ↑April 12th, 2020, 2:10 pm Rough. Rugged. Bonsai is like a box of chocolates...MJL wrote: ↑April 12th, 2020, 2:10 pm Rough. Rugged. Bold. Different. Mike
I must thank you for posting these pics.
I have been working on my pines and over 4 days completed 10 of 16. I sat down last night with a bourbon went to ausbonsai and saw this post. Straight away I knew I had been kidding myself, just trying to get my trees done asap.
I went back out today and spent all day doing it properly, completing just 6 trees.
Thanks mate, inspiring.
