My first tree

Post by treeman »

The old procumbens. I don't wire this tree any more. I made a conscious decision not to come hell or high water.

But I wanted to see what the main branch would look like pulled down...It looks way to conventional like this.

Pulled right down..

And with the small branches wired up a little.

Conclusion: Stop messing around with it and leave the damn thing alone.

Lovely tree you have there I like the look in the first pic, but understand your point about conventional. Do you think that the changes are an improvement or just a necessary change of direction to keep some interest in the tree for you?

I really like how this tree has developed since I last saw it. Really nice.

Good to see the lizard is still basking on the trunk too!

I'm always looking to make it as wild and rustic as possible. It has changed a lot since the start. It used to have a large main branch which I removed a few years ago. Many branches have been removed over the years. Since I stopped wiring a couple of years ago, it forced me to accept the tree as it wanted to develop. If a small shoot wanted to go up, I let it go up and stopped it where I think it was appropriate. This branch lowering was just a brain fart that didn't go anywhere.
Old windswept junipers in Taiwan are the inspiration..
