I have seen the tree you picked up.
I would be wiring the trunk, potentially using raffia and compressing it right down to get some great movement and to take away from the fact the trunk is rather thin.

Yeah i will be picking up some 7mm wire and raffia in the next few weeks.

whats you opinion on this... I have re-potted (same pot as it has heaps of grow room) to change the angle for when the bends are complete, all i did was give it a brush off of excess soil and took off a real small amout of fine roots (still plenty of fine roots left, maybe 65%) I have decided on 3 branches i want to lose and 2 i want to cut back... how long should i wait? If at all....

Personally I would have waited to repot until you do the bending. Who knows you may change your mind about the angle.
I would probably wait till it settles in, possibly 6 weeks just to be safe. Better to be safe then stress it out.
Also I just want to add, I would have put it into a larger growing style pot and let it grow vigourously for a couple years.
I literally just repotted my big guy into a grow pot.

Cheers for the advice bud, will do next time hahaha still has a couple inches around and like 5 under so should be good for a year or 2...

Sorry I didn't realize it was in a squat pot.
I thought it was already in a bonsai pot.
Should be good in that pot.

Ahh to easy, yeah i have no intention on making the transition to a bonsai pot for at least 2-3 years... well at least untill i have finished bending and cutting back the braches

Big change with this one, decided to find a smaller tree within.
Plan to change the planting angle and do some Jin work.

I'm not much good at offering styling suggestion from a pic but one thing I can suggest.

Get the bark off those areas you wish sooner rather than later. If it dries out it will only come off with a lot of hard work. If you get the pliers on it now and squeeze all the way round it will fall off a whole lot easier. I just use a knife and cut through the bark to the wood underneath at the point where I want the bark to stop coming off. You may end up with shari otherwise!

After removing some bark and a quick virt.
Not sure if the angle in the virt is quite right and will most likely get rid of a lot of that Jin

Ohhh and here you go again woth some inspiration fror me hahaha really unhappy with how one of my larger junipers is looking so im going to do some seaching for a smaller tree

Haha yeah I didn't like how the tree was so large but the trunk wasn't.
I just started hacking and couldn't stop

I'm looking at it but i can't see where your trying to head. The trunk is the same all the way, the bends look the same, maybe re bend to literati or the ground for however long

Feel free to draw me a virt if you want, I don't quite understand what you mean
