Hi Inspired , mate its amazing how much material like this is destroyed by councils , especially when used in medium strips . The RTA is jacking up about the impaired view from the drivers seat and are getting the councils to remove them . A town/ rural city up here just ripped out a 500m strip of them a few weeks ago , they were maintained 1.5m wide , literally hundreds of them destroyed .

I have more front than Myers when it comes to asking departments or individuals for permission to remove or collect and most a very helpful especially when you tell them you are going to bonsai them .

Cheers Alpine

Well i spent the majority of yesterday going over this again . Most of the outer jins are roughed in with the jinning pliers and more compression has been applied .

It looking rather small in this pot but at 800mm wide 600mm deep and 600mm high its still quite large . With plenty of new shoots I wont reduce live branches any more although I would like it compressed another 100mm or so .

Another few hours of chasing the jins back to live material in the centre and it should be ready for the carving with the die grinder and dremel .

Fun and Games. Cheers Alpineart

Coming up even nicer mate, take your time with this one (not that you have much choice haha).

The hard work is paying off as hard work often does.

It seems to have nice fine foliage, how would it go with filling out to create the dense pads we so solemnly seek in Junipers?

Cheers,
Mo

Hi Mo' mate its moving in the direction planned or be it re-assessed . Some seek the old habit of thick foliage pads like the Shimpaku's of old :shake: , I prefer the open flatter type structure like the Juniperus Sabina /Savin juniper :shifty: . This particular species of Juniper could be served up in both old and new structures . The foliage itself is very close to the Shimpaku, the Shimpaku being almost twice as dense .

I refer to this as my Blue Shimp :tu:  My real Shimpaku just underwent a good clean up , its now as naked as a jay bird streaking across the MCG .

Cheers . Alpine

I see what you mean, Shimps foliage is far more dense.

I think that your tree would do well in a balance between the open foliage vs the tight dense foliage in terms of design - the trunk is insanely powerful so perhaps something a little more dense would look more balanced, but too dense (i.e. to the degree of regular Shimpaku) would be too much for your liking.

Either either mate, it's going to be a bloody ripper it is. :tu2:

Gotta keep an eye out for changing landscapes not to miss an opportunity like this if it ever comes my way!

Cheers for the updates again mate really appreciate it.

Mo

This has progressed very well , I have removed the wires and allow it to run riot for this season before a pre-style takes place
P1100725.JPG
. Not keen on the lower thick base branch /fused trunk it may have to go or be turned into a large jin . Plenty of time for decisions no time to do it .

Is the thick branch alive? Got live branches growing from it?
