Slanting Black Pine Progression
Hi Guys im back again with another progressing. This time its an old Black Pine I found as Bonsai Sensation IN Narre Warren, one I had been eyeing off for some time.
How I found it:
I took it home and fertilised it quite hard for about 2 weeks before getting stuck into the restructure of the tree. While this tree did already have great structure, time had got in the way and it was slowly slipping out of good form.
first I cut all the new growth off because this was the first or second week of December, then I cut off all the unnecessary branches in preparation for wiring:
Then it was time for the wiring and this was the result:

PS. sorry about the photos, my image hosting website has gone south.

Re: Slanting Black Pine Progression
Its difficult to see the smaller foliage pads I made in-between the defining pads because of the sparseness of the foliage after the hard cutback. The subtlety and nuance will be apparent once the new buds have grown and been selected.
I hope to show you those photos soon,

Blimey - I don’t know which impressed me more / the work on your tree; your incredible workshop or the fact that your uploading videos, photos ... the whole banana.
Well played! Excellent tree - I look forward to the progression and more views of your workshop; beats the top of my BBQ or our courtyard table!

That's a much bigger tree than I thought by just looking at the static pics. Nicely done, I will look forward to seeing it develop.

Re: Slanting Black Pine Progression
Here is an update as the second flush is growing nicely now. I am really looking forward to wiring the new foliage in Autumn/Winter and showing this tree off.

Re: Slanting Black Pine Progression
Its cooling off now and the second flush of this pine is hardening off. So I went ahead and did bud selection on it. It still has some ways to go, but still looking good 6 months on. I had a photographer come through and shoot a few trees. This was one of them.
when the photographer shoots through the high res ill replace the picture above.

Re: Slanting Black Pine Progression
Gotta say Matt you really know how to develop your pines. By the look of the January pic you do all the work you can in spring/summer, and the autumn picture not only shows all the results of the work, but also fantastic health.
Can I ask, what is your fert regime and what particular candle cut method do you use?

Re: Slanting Black Pine Progression
So Ealier the year I styled this tree and added some finer dimensions to it. I was able to carve out a few more pads which help the tree scale better. Sorry for the drop in quality, COVID has made it super difficult to photograph trees.
