Not sure if I have posted about this one, couldn’t find an old post. But I love this tree and want you all to see the progression.
Was just a bushy shrub when I got it for $50 at bonsai world.
Was also very tough to find a direction for it, but I got there in the end and I think I found the only and best direction for this tree.

Still a way to go on it, but it’s settling in nicely now.

Tell me what you think.

Cheers

This is looking great. Looks healthy. I’d like to see the tree fill out.

Looking great.

Squamata are proving to be my nemesis.

The first I killed through lack of knowledge. The next two (good specimens from Bunnings) sat there not doing anything until I was struck with poor inspiration and poor skills.

I wish I had seen this thread then to challenge me to think more about where I was going with both.

Re filling out…

I have a question about that. A lot is because once bitten twice shy.

I’ve read to encourage the filling out to pinch the tips. But I have also read (and experienced) the consequences of cutting the ends off a growing stem. How do you get the balance right?

It depends when you do it. You let it grow and can cut it when then foliage colour darkens. Kinda like pines, except junipers strength is in its leaves whereas a pine’s is in its roots.

You don’t want to cut off too much and I wouldn’t do any more if I was you. I still have the growth on some of my strongest junipers… could be laziness, though!Image
