I've been busy trimming the last couple of days as you can see by the number of recent posts, so I had to include this little shimpaku ROR. It started as one of a group of starters I bought from Shibui in 2015 which were all twisted into interesting shapes, as outlined in the last few pages of this thread:

One of these trees was wrapped around the rock and covered in foil around 2018, but I'll have to dig around and find earlier photos. After letting it grow for a while I took it to a workshop with Andrew Sellman when he was last in Adelaide, I think in 2019. It's a bit top heavy at the moment but I'll hold off taking any more off for a few months as I just removed a large branch at the back and I want the tree to recover.

Thats a cool little tree. I never thought to use shimpaku to attach to a rock. I have some recent cuttings that have rooted i didnt know what to do with. So i might grow some on a couple of rocks. How big was the tree when you attached it to the rock Matt?

The tree was about 4 years old when I wrapped it onto the rock, about as thick as my little finger. It had already been bent into the shape it is now and had set in position.

I had so many seedlings from shibui that I was able to try a few different things, so a ROR seemed a good idea.
