Hi Alpine,
What a difference from when you started work on this tree. I hope this will be an encouragement to those who are "beginners". It shows what can be done with time, effort and patience.

Hi Ray , mate thanks for the inspiration to keep going

. This has come along nicely and for a Deodara it does look quite good in the flesh .I had 2 others sister tree's "blue specimens" developing but my young fella snapped the apex off 1 with his mountain bike and damaged the tail of th 2nd trainer , he thought he could ride along and down the rock retaining walls

.

Hi no idea , I utilized the existing roots to create this root on rock cascade , just to be different . It has progressed nicely

. It has had a couple of minor trims this season , now its due for a major cut and wire which is on the list of "must do" things along with many others .

This has progessed very nicely . Yes indeed a wire needs to be on the cards. cedar branches love to bounce back so that cascading branch will need taming . again lovely work

Hi Matthew , mate it has progressed nicely and yes these cedars are notorious for bouncing back like tennis balls . The tail is usually wired down into a full cascade , come show time it bounces back into a semi cascade . I use a fine guide wire to hold the tail firm in the full cascade position and I've been known to use it in the show .A couple of hours of concentrated work trimming and wiring

Hi Alpine..have you ever tried bending your desired branch too an extreme a number of times and then wired? i find i get movement that stays, I've never wired mine yet, mind you I've only had mine for a month

Hi no idea , mate if you do that the branch is destined to die . When you wire a branch or a trunk you bend it into position without twisting back and forth or the fibres and bark seperate or break. That will definately weaken the branch and die back will be the result . You might get away with it on the odd occasion but I certainly wouldn't do it .

in need of wiring again however its not going to happen in my time unless some wonderful person comes along and does it for me or it finds a new home .
