Shohin crabapple

Post by Matthew »

Spring is almost here even though its under 10 degress and hailing at the moment. Was repotting a few shohin junipers and spotted this guy. I say she'll open in a couple of days. I grew the trunk for about 5 years in the ground and forth year on branching now. This will be the best flowering to date. The apex needs shortening i was thickening it alittle.

Mine have also started to open this week. Not as many flowers as some other years but still OK. Mid September is quite early for flowering. I remember having my crab apple in full flower at a BSV show in early October many years ago.

that's another great thing about crab apples. Flowers on permanent fruiting spurs so, once they develop, the tree flowers year after year despite normal bonsai trimming.

Wow! What a beautiful little tree. The pink/white flowers with the vibrate green leaves are just stunning. Thanks for posting.
