Satsuki Azalea positioning

I have done some research on Azaleas as I have just recently received 2 to grow as bonsai.

I am looking for some advice on Azalea positioning for fastest growth. I am not worried about flowering, just fast growth.

I have a couple of garden azaleas that state on the label to be positioned in shade.

Do some Azaleas require full sun and some full shade. If so, how to tell which sub species are applicable to sun or shade?

I understand that it would also depend slightly on where in Australia the plant is located.

I am located in Tweed, just on the NSW/QLD border, so sub tropical.

It's more the fact that they can tolerate shade. They still will grow more when in sun, just don't have them in full sun on hot days, just like most plants.

I have all mine in Dappled shade in my benches
they do not like full summer sun but all other times they love it

Repot every year after flowering so give lots of room for root growth , but if growing on do not let flowers develop.
Wire to shape when young and supple to get movement in the trunks

Thanks Ken,

I was having a read of the American Society of Azaleas website (how random) and they mentioned the same. Dappled sun/shade is the preferred positioning.

It's not a bad website if anyone is keen on a read up on Azaleas. :reading:
