Re: First winter flower
Bayside Melbourne and my garden tree Alboplena is starting up. Can't wait for full bloom it will look (and smell!) amazing.
Last year when it was in full bloom i took a few branches to the local bakery run by a Japanese family and they were very surprised and happy to see mume, so i'll do the same again this year i think

Re: First winter flower
Same here in Brisvegas. The Japanese apricot has started, and my little plum tree as well. These are the mume flowers.

Re: First winter flower
This pre bonsai flowering apricot is beginning to bloom now. It hasn't been the best summer and autumn in Sydney with all the rain which I believe has led to smaller flowers and less blooms compared to last year. I've had this tree for 5 years and I think its time to jump in the deep end and cut it back hard as the branches are getting quite leggy. Hopefully I won't kill it... Alternatively put it up for sale and let some else a go at developing and styling it, which the Mrs thinks is a good idea because I've been spending too much time admiring it and not her...

Re: First winter flower
Seems to be a common theme. I regularly hear similar sentiments.Mrs thinks is a good idea because I've been spending too much time admiring it and not her...

Re: First winter flower
My single pink prunus mume flowering, still just a small plant still. My large garden plant double pink mume firmly refusing to flower still but it always flowers much nearer spring than the Alboplena. It can't be far off though!

Re: First winter flower
Thanks Mike, I haven’t seen many others as pure pink as it before in a single flower.
Right now I don’t have spare as that’s pretty much the entire plant in the photo. From Summer onwards for sure I will once it pushes the next extension.
I’m not sure how well they root in summer as I do mine soon as flowering finishes, but worst case next winter for certain you can grab some
