Just noticed that one of the collected plums has set fruit this year. The tree was a cow paddock collection about 3 years ago. Even though the free is small the fruit are pretty close to normal size.

That looks phenom, is that a root over rock? Never though a plum could be grown as a ROR

Not ROR. It's just a fat trunk with the biggest old trunk carved down as it was too tall and straight for bonsai.

Yep, all my cerasifera fruited well this year, twenty or so total! I was just waiting for them to ripen... Yep, they're ripe - every single one stripped in a day by the birds... They didn't even leave a stone.

Sigh. We have three dogs and a cat - what the hell use are they?

What does a dog or cat care about plums? If the birds start on the dog food you'll see more action.

Technically the pets should chase off intruders in the yard, with or without plums, but they are lazy and spoilt rotten...

Our dogs have almost all had a set against magpies and would be after any black and white that came anywhere near but need to be taught to chase away parrots. Some, like yours, would not even do it when asked to.

The noisy miner is really good at keeping the big birds out of my plum tree (not the bonsai) so as irritating as it may be, the noisy miner has meant that we get some plums off our tree.
