Picked up this little guy on gumtree today, had some interesting surface roots and movement that might make a nice tree in some years. Probably shouldn’t have spent money on bonsai this week but it grabbed me and I wanted it... the struggle is real.

Let me get a little left field and maybe a tad weird.
The exposed roots ... if I turn your avatar upside down... the roots look like your avatars hands. Spooky. The question begs... are you subconsciously purchasing plants that reflect your bonsai persona?

Tending bonsai teaches me patience.

Got some nice bends in the trunk. Personally I'd put it into a colander and sit it on the ground in a nice sunny spot for a couple of years to thicken it up. A root prune every summer, lots of fertiliser, and some directional pruning will have you ready to go by 2020.
Bring it on Saturday and see what some of the other members have to say?
