QLD can possibly repot figs all year. See what other northern growers advise but I'd probably hold off a bit longer. There is no need to worry about whether fig is growing or not when root pruning. They seem to recover better when the top is active.

I've root pruned a couple of figs in the last two weeks. I do, however, keep them in the warmest, most protected part of my yard, where they get at least 5 hours of sun a day, and the heat is reflected off the deck and fence to keep everything nice and comfortable.

If you can't offer a warm protected spot, then wait til August/September.

I am in Syndey and repot figs thru the winter if they need it badly, my figs do not stop growing in winter here.

I’m in Melbourne and I just moved my second fig indoor near a window… I moved my first one 2 weeks ago after repotting and after monitoring and lots of new growth I decided that they are actually happier inside at the moment!

I am in Melbourne. Although I have a tented heated bench inside my greenhouse for striking cuttings, it can get to below 10 C in the greenhouse as a whole, I don't want my fig starters in particular to stop growing, so even though its Mid may, I am going to try bringing them inside next to a north facing window. It really never gets below 15C and maybe as high as 25 on a sunny day, the glass is modern UV/tinted heat reducing glass.

So the question is, will my figs be able to handle a 3 month stint inside, anything to watch out for?

Species/cvs are: Ficus rubingosa, Cv "little Ruby" Cv green island, Ficus microcarpa ( various) and benjamina, which is supposed to be an indoor fig anyway.

I’m in Melbourne too I keep all those varieties you have including the Willow leaf fig outside all year round with no detriment to them. The only this to watch when moving figs inside sometimes they can sook at being moved and drop leaves due to change in conditions. If they drop leaves just cut back on watering until they start to produce new leaves after adjusting to the new conditions. Or leave them outside if they are established plants they will be fine.

Ficus are one of the few genera that can cope with indoor conditions year round if necessary so should have no problem with 3 months inside.
Friends in Canberra take their figs inside even earlier but pop them back outside to sunbathe on warmer sunny days.
I've also noted that plants seem to take time to adjust to changes of conditions - not always drop leaves but definitely a pause in growth for a few weeks after each move. It's colder up here so mine must over winter in the unheated poly tunnel. These days I just leave them in there year round.
