Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Cheers Mel, style-wise I think it's definitely on a better path than when I started with it. More importantly, looking back at my first photos it's great to see how much healthier it looks now.

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Some root work as suggested by Anthony a while back. I wasn't brave enough to do this fully when I repotted, but today I just went for it.
And some experiments with one of the many cuttings I have of this tree.

Lots of chops and some wire. I decided against defoliating since I had repotted but it probably would've been fine either way. It looks like a bit of a rats nest in the photo... I swear it makes more sense in 3D.

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Love the Greg original pot lmao. It is a great progression thread and agree photos don't do them the 3d justice that and I haven't mastered my photo taking of bonsai yet. I'm away from my figs for a few weeks and glad the weather at home has been hot wet and humid. I should get back to some very happy plants

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Another update, for my own records more than anything. One day I'll have a nicer way of tracking progressions.

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Yet another small update after a haircut. I'm pretty happy with the structure now.

Finally some summer weather - good time for a defoliation I think.

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
This is super exciting for me - a pot for a fig! The lovely Luke from Adelaide Bonsai Pottery whipped this up for me.
It didn't come out exactly as planned - the kiln had to run longer than expected to get up to temperature, so the glaze is a dark greeny blue rather than the light green that was expected. The rim has also warped slightly instead of being perfectly level. Luke was happy to make it again, and brought it along to last night's club meeting for me to take a look at, and I think it's so perfect for this fig. I'm in love with the colour, and the undulating rim matches this imperfect tree, and grandad's personality, so well.
I'll post pics once it's potted up. The weather's looking a bit cool this week but I think there's still time to do it now.

Re: PJ fig needs some styling
Great looking pot for it! I wouldn't worry about the slightly uneven rim. I don't have a wheel to throw pots on, building them all by hand or in a mold and they are never perfect, but still look good, to me anyway . If you want a perfect pot you can always buy a factory made one that looks the same as hundreds of other pots.
