Black and White Figs

Post by MJL »

I didn’t know whether to put these here or in the cafe because I am not sure they will be bonsai - not the right species. Rather figs that I drop into half wine barrels and enjoy their fruits or perhaps I’ll sell or trade them... not sure. They are hard to kill though!

In short they were in raised beds - fruited like crazy each year but were getting too big for the location. So I dug ‘em out. Flat saw-cut the base - into a good potting mix and waited - 6-8 weeks later. Bang! Look at that growth.

The black fig is the bigger of the two.

If you attempt to bonsai these figs I'm interested to see how you go about reducing the leaf size. :D ;)

To quote someone famous: “yeah - nah”

I won’t be bonsai’ing - I will be chucking them in barrels and growing a controlled but productive fruiting trees - that will be easier to drape a bird net over, and digging it has released a garden bed - more space for bonsai! At least that is tonight’s plan.
