Autumn ficus work?

Post by NickityNic »

Howdy!
Im pretty new to bonsai (3 years) and was wondering if there was any specific work people like to do in autumn with their ficus? What is everyone doing to get ready for winter?
Im thinking that leaving might be a good option to keep the foliage to help dry the pot over winter bit im not sure. Also i love working so if theres an autumn job i want it haha
Cheers
Nic

Hey Nic,
I'm in Newy so not too far away from you. Although the days are still reasonably warm I would be hesitant in doing a full defoliation on ficus at this time. One job that I have been doing recently is controlling aerial roots as they extend down to soil level for better placement. Also you could fertilize, fertilize, fertilize...I usually lay chook poo pellets on thick. Figs love food!
