I have recently picked up this fig and have looked at it for several days now and i am undecided which direction should be taken. Any advise would be helpful.

Putting in a grow box was one of the thoughts i had.

that will definately help mate, give it some legs to run and you will be rewarded with more growth than ya need

do you have access to diatomite? use that straight or with a mix of soil to help soften it a little

Jamie i picked up a couple of bags a few weeks ago and potted a few PJ figs and Green Island figs but found it tricky to get them to settle in the mix over the mix i normally use. Is there a trick or am doing something wrong

I mixed the diatomite with a little bagged bonsai mix used your ratio 80% diatomite and 20% mix.

370mm high, 330mm wide and 90mm around the trunk.

no trick to it mate, just do it like you normally would, i do find i really need to work it into the roots, use a chopstick or similar, and just work it. i usually spend upwards of fifteen minutes working it in, then a good soaking and a little more working. then another soak. tap the sides of the pot aswell, that can help it settle.

Yer if found if i wet the medium it seems to settle better than if it is dry.

PS. I always use a chop stick to get the medium were it needs to be.

yep, i found given them a good watering helps to settle it with any mix.

the fig will love it in diatomite, it creates a sweet micro climate for the tree
