Below is a flower on what I assume was a Chinese elm. The bark wasn't quite the same more a brown than a grey. It came as an extra plant when I bought some from a deceased estate. The flowers don't open anymore than this, or at least the first one didn't.
For scale, the leaves are 1 to 2 cm long.

Not much to go on being just a bud. It reminds me of Grewia occidentalis – Lavender Star. The colour of your bud looks a bit too pink, but that could be suggestive.

Thanks. Looks quite likely. Although the last flower dropped before opening up. There are many more coming so may get a better if they do open properly.
