Thanks Sno. You are spot on.
Strange that the plant ID app on the phone ID-ed it as Japanese Honey Shuckle which made me think it was in the honey shuckle family.

Does anyone know if they make good bonsai? I have access to a few 8 - 9 yrs old trunks.
The trunk looks a bit like tea trees, really hard wood and they seem to back bud well.
