I am leaning toward Nectarine doesn't really mater I mean I'm air layering it any way. Curiosity was spiked so now its eating at me. The fruit is odd shaped and dark from the start which is wrong from what I have seen on Nectarines. But the leaf seems right the bark fits in some prunus family. Was sold to me as flowering plum from old collection. Was kept by daughter when father passed she let it grow out in a pot. I can air layer it and keep as a garden ornament is the plan.

SO....Thoughts is it a nectarine some cross breed or something completely different?

Looks like a Nectarine to me. They do colour up even when the fruit it self is still green/not ripe.

Weird looking fruit. You haven't mentioned the seed / pit, I presume it does have the typical stone fruit seed / pit?

A picture of the fruit sliced in half (showing flesh and stone) would be interesting to see - if you have one.

The flowers don't look like any peach/nectarine I've seen. Peach flowers are normally pinkish. White flowers are more like plum flowers but the leaves are very similar to peach. Possibly a hybrid? Possibly one of the species we don't usually use as fruit - which would fit with the flowering plum designation.
When you pick the fruit I'd like to see the stone inside. That will definitely decide if it is more plum or more nectarine.

Thanks guys, This year the flowers where very white previous years pinkish edges. There is a pip with seed inside. The fruit tastes blah quite tart stays mostly this colour until ripe some start to get green patches that end up an orange colour more in line with a nectarine but the shape never matches the image you think of for this fruit. Definitely could be a cross or a variety not normally used for fruit or a seed mutation. As I said happy with it as is but also curiosity. Seems most agree it is definitely Prunus and probably a Nectarine.... If I can get some fruit to ripen with out bats eating it I'll show again. But mainly after it as bonsai stock to play with.

Most probably a hybrid. The flowering plums I've seen and one that was in my parents' garden in Adelaide had similar fruit, but with pink flowers and dark red-ish coloured leaves.

I reckon it’s some sort of almond.
