Pup wrote::gday: nice to see some one is getting early, so that we all have time to look at and assess the trees. As I am not in this year :crybye: :crybye: not that that should be of concern as last year there were some superb trees entered.

So please start them coming in, as I would like to look at them, I will be off line for about two weeks in April. I am sure Lindsay and Tony would also like to see what we have to offer them, for judgement.
Good luck to all who enter. Please read the guidelines that Steven and Jeff have put in place, so there is no misunderstanding, of the rules.

Cheers :hooray: Pup
Definitely looking forward to seeing what's around the country, so get em in early. Remember to have them well groomed as presentation is part of the judging. The little things may be all that seperates some.

Good start PeterH.

Nice to see some early entries from PeterH in Category 1!
deepeetee wrote:Just a small clarification to the rules, if a newbie like myself were to enter a specimen into the newbie awards, does the tree need to be a in a bonsai pot? Or can it still be in a training pot?
G'day Mr. Dave,

The awards are judged on the following;
1. Horticulture - 10%
2. Aesthetics - 30%
3. Design, image and presentation - 60%

If you were to submit a tree in a nursery pot it would adversely affect the aesthetics, image and presentation however the decision is yours.
Ash wrote:For clarification: Category 2- 'in training for less than twelve months'

1. Does this mean a plant that was not trained as bonsai more than 12 months ago but can be any age (eg. yamadori or urbanadori)?
Or
2. Does this mean a plant that was propagated less than 12 months ago?
G'day Mr. Ash,

As stated by Pup, the tree can be any age however not trained or styled in anyway for longer than 1 year (except for trunk chops and pruning at collection etc). Hope this clarify's things better.

For some inspiration, here is a link to the gallery of category 1 entries in the 2010 awards.

Regards,
Steven

Hi All
Just looking thru my trees and what to submit, do you want the entries posted now and then updated photos before the close, or just wait until the last week to enter?

I have a few in the category 2 I am going to enter and possible two in Cat 1 If I can find some nice pots between now and then. They are still in Nursery pots ATM, and do not qualify as Cat2 but are still only developed for only 2 years.

:gday: :aussie: Bonsai growers we judges at the moment, have it nice and easy, as we only have 4 Four contestants.
I am sure there are a lot more trees out there as the competition was quite fierce, with some wonderful trees. Last year

As The administrators have asked, that the photos be of the tree as it is now. Not last years photos, this gives you the opportunity to get a good shot, and increase your chances.
Again the prizes are worth the effort, I can attest to that, so come on Members get them in so we can appraise them properly and not have a last minute mad rush.

Thanking you all in advance. Pup ;)

I'm looking forward to this project. Of course, every opinion is a prejudiced one. I hope the diversity of the panel brings balance. Just remember, Decca Records rejected the Beatles. I hope we don't make such poor judgements.
Cheers

Settle down Pup. Last night I had the most inspiring dream where my defoliated lilly pilly leafed out looking like a scene from one of John Glover's paintings. Off course with you out of the mix it took top honours. Yet you seem inclined to take this small joy away from me by asking for more entries :tounge:

I agree the diversity of judging wil be very interesting. Love to see the full score sheets. I learn alot from all discussion that evolves :fc: Except for the trolls
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

The reports of my demise are somewhat exaggerated. I am taking an interest in this current challenge although obviously, I have no Oz native trees.=Don.

I have a few mame that i am thinking of entering in the comp this year & am just wondering if they should be displayed individually or as part of a group as per usual display/competition?

Matt It is up to you I had the same query last year. The answer was You can post them as individuals or in a group on the stand.

Sorry I did not get back sooner, as I thought, you know the score I thought that person Some one would answer.

Well they did not so here is a long winded reply.

Cheers Pup :reading:

Cheers Pup, we still have a ways to go before closing but thought I better find out now. I was thinking to display as a group if i can find or make a suitable stand but wasnt sure as I know you had a number of mame in last year individually.

Hi Matt

If I can throw in on this one, I would do as Pup did last year and enter them individually so they can be judged that way. The display stand is a great way to exhibit mame, but they would still be judged individually unless in a display award. A group photo would still be good as a bonus for all.

Best regards

Tony
