So this Mel ended up surviving and is not a shohin size any more. Has not been wired in over a year and needs one badly. Just chucked in an accent type thing because I have just started growing them and its pretty fun.
Since most of my trees died I had lost interest in all things bonsai but I'm starting to recover from the disappointment (understatement) Might even join a club soon

Really nice trunk on that izzykay. Would love to see another post if you decide to do some work on it. Glad you found some lost interest and have reignited your motivation... I reckon this tree might've helped with that - it's a keeper!
