A Change in Direction and New Shoes for this Zelcova

Post by Watto »

I dug this from a garden quite a few years ago and have been slowly working towards getting it to a state where it is worthy of an exhibition.
This year at repot time I changed its direction (and I think its better) and put it in a pot that is much thinner (I am on the look out for a much better pot). Only time will tell if this move is an improvement.

Shallower pot looks great, just need some time to work it down a bit lower in the pot.
Life's too short for boring pots

Old look with the shallow pot. I think that might be a better look :imo:

I agree with Rod.
I prefer the original front and lower in the new pot

I'm with those two. You've straightened the trunk by changing the angle, so now we aren't seeing those beautiful curves.

Thankyou all for your very well considered ideas.
Whatever happens I will have this "as is" for the next year or two. It is ironic that I deliberately lifted the tree up in the pot as I thought it looked too flat sitting lower (it does have a very flat root base).
I thought the ramification looked better from the new direction and thus the reason I did it. I will let you know what I think after a year to see if I have changed my mind...... again.
