Bohdi, as I read it you can use multiple trees for a group on the proviso, (1) that they have had no Bonsai work other than a trunk chop and some root work.( 2) they fit the height requirements.
No work other than stated to be carried out until the 1st of september 2011

I concur with Pups take on it too :-)
If they are already a group and NOT been trained, then OK to use. If separate trees then you will need to wait til after the start date to put them together

G'day Diederik,

Interesting question and one that I had overlooked in the comp rules. Yes, a group setting is allowable as long as it fits the height requirements and the other rules. Looking forward to seeing what you put together!

And for everyone who is yet to post their entries... you only have 9 days left...

Regards,
Steven

If rules are rules that's fine with me I don't want to make an unfair advanyage for the other :)

Well spotted Andrew, a bit of a challenge to keep up with him.
I do like the diversity of subject matter being attempted.

Some of it I think, will need more that 14 months to get there, good luck all of you. :hooray: :lost:  :palm:

Again, I am not sure every body entering this competition has read and understands the RULES.

No pre Bonsai, or work to be done, other than the trunk chop or root work. (Some dispensations have been granted) Prior to the 1st of September.

I know I am not a Moderator, so I have no say, but some are clearly pushing the boundaries.

I am glad Pup brought this up. I have seen two entries that I can remember, that don't comply with the rules, one of which I think is simply a lack of reading the rules properly, but the other upset me, as the contributor should certainly know better. I think that some moderating is needed, as soon as possible, so people have the time to change their entries before 1 September if need be.

If anyone feels a tree is not suitable, or should be excluded for a rule breach, Can you send Steven a link to it via PM ( or post here) and he then sort them out

There have already been entries removed for various reasons already, but we all want to keep it fair and equitable for all :-)

Thanks, Ken. I checked and the entry that upset me is already gone. Good thing! The other I'll write directly to the contributor about, he's a newbie and may have overlooked some of the rules.

Ok I see the other thread got locked down. I have actually been wondering about a tree of mine, whether it is acceptable or not. Its one I chopped back to a trunk line, bare rooted and repotted back on 28 June 2011. I can see from two semi healed scars that i had previously removed two lower growths (one you can see in the fourth pic) but that is all.
The question is when does 'trunk chopping' turn into 'purposeful pruning', I mean any plant you ever buy from a nursery or dig from a garden will have been pruned and hopefully pruned with purpose. And even more so if the plant was grown as bonsai stock (which this one wasn't). I only have one entry so far so I'm looking for another but before i enter it thought I'd better check, if there any objections then thats fine, no probs I won't put it in. [may not get enpough growth in 14 mnths anyway as I have a note to myself on the tag saying I slaughtered the roots haha]
Here's the pics - its an azalea currently 250mm high
Cheers!
neal.

I've been looking at a possible entry, but it may end more mame than shohin - how particular will our illustrious moderators become about minimum heights? This one might end up less than 7cms long.
