People,
Let's not invent rules. The photo with a paper thing is a once off for a particular entrant. Plus, our papers are a bit embarrasing at the moment as the latest headlines are about how Australia is going to specatularly crash out of the Rugby World Cup and how its going to be a All Black, South Africa final.

For the record, any tree shohin size and under will be accepted. Shohin size being maximum 250mm (10 inches) tall from rim of pot to top of tree.
As stated in the rules under TIME-FRAME AND COMMITMENTS, Work can only be done on your submissions between 1st September 2011 and 31st October 2012. To ensure fairness for all, we may request proof that trees have not yet been worked on towards the end of August. You have been warned
Due to his past contributions to our forum, I have inducted Andrew Legg of Cape Town as a temporary Aussie for the duration of the competition so he can participate. However due to such different growing conditions, his submissions will not be eligible for winning.
Regards,
Steven

We just schooled the All Blacks in the Tri Nations! Happy if you guys win it. Just as long as the Poms don't win it again without ever scoring a try.....Andrew Legg wrote:People,

I haven't been able to get a newspaper, but I hate cheating, and don't even do it in video games lol. Being away from home before dark and getting home after dark ahsnt been leaving much time to cheat anyway SO hopefully people can trust my honesty.

What better way to prove the date rather than AusBonsai itself

Re: AusBonsai Shohin Progressive Styling Competition 2011
Competition!! Shohin!! Rules?? Trunk Chop!! Rootwook!! Midnight!! Cool!!
I had better get cracking and take some pics of my 3 entries then.
I have decided to go with:
Tree #1 will be an informal Cork Bark Elm. Tree #2, a group of 5 trees grown from cuttings taken in Late 2009 from tree #1. Tree#3: A tiny informal Trident, that as far as I can tell will have tiny leaves to match (providing I am able to build a decent trunk line in the time allocated ).
Matt/Noah 78, are you in yet??
Best of luck to all, let's have a ball with this, spectators especially bonsai novices, just keep in mind that 14 months a Shohin bonsai does not make. Despite the time constraints, I reckon the entrants will be able to make some dramatic improvements to their trees (those Queenslanders and their fat trunked figs with 20 foot long sacrificial leaders ).
Cheers,
Mojo

Re: AusBonsai Shohin Progressive Styling Competition 2011
This comment will probably get me censured! even banned for a few months or for ever I have tried to get this sorted since it started.
Put a plant in a styrene box or a pot put it on the show bench at your club, and all who look at it will say nice stock or that is a load of Shari.
Put that same plant in a Bonsai pot and put it on the show bench and the comment will be nice Bonsai or shari Bonsai.
They will say Bonsai when it is in a Bonsai Pot.
Simple EH!!
When the person who posted the rules has to ask whether his tree comply's what chance for the rest.
Sorry but it had to be said, you might or might not get to read this.
Cheers Pup

Ken, I actually thought the same thing after I posted lol. I saw the ausbonsai clock and though "hey..... perfect way to prove...."
Just finishing dinner and going to grab the trees
Pup - Your comments make sense an I wouldn't see a reason to get banned because of them. I agree to a point.

i have looked at my elm and decided againest it as i did put wire on the leader sometime ago so it does have movement making it not eligable. other than digging grow stuff out of the ground which has been trunk chopped i dont have anything that would be allowed. good luck to all the entrants and ill post my elm as the comp goes by just in the progression thread though

Matthew I will be doing the same, as I see the progression part of more value any way.Matthew wrote:mojo
