So Brett when you finally get your other tree. If its not in the pot is that OK? :?: its still a Bonsai. :palm: :lost:

Enough now I am keeping you all from your alloted news paper and screen pics, as you only have1 and a half hours, to go then you can start.

As I have said good luck to you all.

People, I thought the whole point of this compo was to show progressions. Its essentially a progression series with a rub on the tummy for the top trees at the end.

Pup, I honestly think you are splitting hairs mate. If you are trying to educate us as to what does and does not constitute a bonsai, then I believe this is the wrong place to be doing it.

Steven has done the correct thing by recusing himself from the decision given that the entry has been questioned. It would not be propper for him to make a call as he has a vested interest (the tummy rub). I think your comment is a bit harsh.

Because of the full moon that must be happening right now, several people will be missing out for the next 14 months. :shake:

Okay, well, um :lost:

Lets get this competition started :tu: In 1.5 hours

There is no need to post a picture of your trees with a newspaper. We will just trust that everyone has stuck to the timelines. If you have started work early then may your pots be filled with curl grubs and your tools go rusty.

Regards,
Steven

P.S. are there still any outstanding questions

Andrew the word you are looking is pedantic.
I asked a question very early in the piece even showed the tree before and after the Chop, before the Chop it had wire on it after the Chop none and none since.

It was deemed unacceptable. So it appears that previous wire regardless is not acceptable, even after the trunk chop showed none of the original trunk.

As for progression there are quite a few of mine already here so I have done my bit.
I Just wondered about the rules. As has been pointed out by you and others I should not Question just accept blindly.

I broke a few principles when I entered this competition. Appreciation  is enjoyed while judgement  is frowned upon.
I hate the way people get worked up when discussing who won and who should have won.
My club decided many years ago that "best in show" is not worth the bitching.
I do not envy the judges.

What is important :imo:
Stock selection............vision for what can be done
Creativity..................artistic flair
Horticulture................keep the tree healthy
Share the transformation with forum members
Overall transformation. (Bear in mind some stock is really nice before work begins but to transform something ordinary will require skill).
Presentation.
Enjoy
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Not long to go now!!...
Enjoy everyone, and I agree that the point of the comp is to contribute knowlege via more progressions!
I have trawled through all the progressions series posts, shohin posts, and am currently on pg11 of the pines and junipers posts as well as having read many others too!
I guess I will be spending many more hours trawliing/surfing this 2011 shohin comp as well  ...BRING IT ON I SAY!!...can't wait to learn more!!
Thanks Ausbonsai and all who contribute/post on this fantastic website!! :hooray:
Good luck guys and gals!! :fc: :tu:
Thanks, Dario. ;)
