Aug update:
Not a lot of change since the last update, maybe a little fuller on the top. Still haven't decided which view I will settle on for the front. I'll decide when I pot it up I reckon.

Thanks guys.

Last posting prior to final trim, potting up and final submission. I think the second photo will be the front. At the moment it stands 210mm from soil level to apex, 370mm wide and 230mm front to back:

Well, looks as if I'm going to be the first to jump in the deep end and post my final submission - so here goes:

As can be seen by the tape, this now stands a true 210mm high at pot level (I did take a photo of it from the proper viewing position, but that showed it up as being only 190mmm, which isn't correct).

With at least 30mm to play with, future intentions would be to use that extra height and get good separations and a bit of negative space between the foliage pads. If it's feasible, I'd also like to separate the left and right pads by pruning and wiring one higher and the other lower to form a distinct step between the two. Apart from that, I'm extremely happy how this one has turned out.
This has been an interesting exercise and I would never have dreamed that it would go from the very first photo to what is displayed now

Oh, and I do hope that newspaper centre headline in the first photo isn't directed at my tree! :lost: :tu:

Well, all up to the judges now so :fc: and best of luck to all the other entrants - we're all hoping for this I guess :hooray:

Hi Taffy,

I have followed this tree from your 1st post. I love privet, and this is one of the best I have seen. You made the right choice with the front. Congratulations mate and all the best for the comp.

If it were not for my trees, maybe I could see the forest.

Thanks Crafty, thanks Steve. Yes, I like these Privets as well. Very forgiving, easy to work with - and just about bulletproof!

Super job, from that big scrubby shrub to this neat, appealing shohin in 14 months! Congratulations, whether or not you get a prize. :hooray:
