Botanic Name: Xanthostemon chrysanthus
Common Name: Golden Penda
Trained: 7 months
Height: 35 cm
Width: 32 cm
Artist: Daniel (dansai)
Where: Mid North Coast, NSW

Another from my work place. I had been eyeing this one for ages. Love the base. Will probably chop the trunk again. Leaf size does seem to reduce OK on first new growth. Has been a strong grower.

Has this flowered for you dansai?

In Brisbane at the moment they are absolutely magnificent. I've never seen so many blooms on the trees at the one time!

Hi Mel,

It's like that down here also. Any idea why? There are a white bottle brush (not sure of species) which are flowering like crazy also. It seems like the have so many more flowers this year, although I can't be certain as i don't have photos from previous years. I probably should take some this year for comparison.

Cheers,
Nigel

Unfortunately it has passed on. All the flowering around here has also been spectacular.

That's a shame dansai. After seeing them flowering I wondered if they'd make a good bonsai specimen. The limited info I can get seems to be that they can take being pruned, but that's about it. I suppose the flowers will be too big?

NAHamilton the plants with the white bottlebrushes around here are Melaleuca, I believe, the weeping ones are very pretty when flowering, but mostly finished now. This rain will definitely finish the flowering off!

I think they would need to be bigger bonsai. The growth is lanky with little branching. The Little Penda may work better. Growth is more compact and leaves smaller. I have a couple that I'm growing on at the moment so will wait and see

Yes I think you're right. Will keep a look out for the dwarf variety. Cheers! Good luck with yours.
