[Scott Roxburgh] Acer Buergerianum

Post by Scott Roxburgh »

:gday:

Species: Acer Buergerianum
Height: 580mm from top of root surface
Origin: Bonsai Environment, Kingston Wang, Vineyard
Price: $150.00

Firstly to the Steven et al, thanks for organising the comp!

Here is my first entry, a Trident Maple. I bought this one on the weekend from Kingston, great value I think.

I envisage a large chop just above where the taper stops, and growing an new apex from there...

I'm not expecting greatness in such a short period, but I was going to do the big chop anyway so thought that I should document it :aussie:

It'll be good to see how much I can accomplish in the time though

Nice stump to start a shohin. If the plant grows well as all trident maples generally do, you should be able to get a nice bonsai in five years time. The most important thing is for it to grow a lot of new shoots. Then you have the luxury of choosing which ones to discard. Within a year's limit of this comp. it might be a bit more difficult, but not impossible. Good luck Scott.

Another update...

After the spring chop, a lot of new buds opened up and I chose a few to keep.

I found a nice tree to model this one on, it is currently at Noelanders 2012:

Something along these lines would be good, although maybe not quite so large

Not much movement here in Canberra!

I have repotted for the first time, and approach grafted two seedlings into the roots.

Withdrawn.

Not in a bonsai pot and I do not want to remove the excess growth to make it look Bonsai

Thanks for the comp though Steve!
