I picked up this stock from the recent Waverley Bonsai Show and I'm planning to layer 3 trees from the stock.
Species: Acer buergerianum
Cost: $125
Height: 40cm approx
Here's the first section to be layered. It's like the ugly duckling but I see a really beautiful future for this one.

Re: [nitram72] Trident Maple
Hi Scott, do you plan to enter the layers, the original trunk or both in the Shohin Comp?
Cheers,
Mojo

Hey Mojo,
I'm just going to enter the top layer which will be done first. The other 2 will be done down the track a little.

Re: [nitram72] Trident Maple
Another update on this one. Growing really well and the roots are starting to push out now. Maybe another month and I should be able to separate it.
Not sure on the timeframe for the competition but it's going to be a great little tree.

Still the same. Not much of an update I'm sorry. The layer when I checked it about a month ago had tried to heal over so it was recut and separated further.
Still alive though!
