I have a cape honeysuckle, but I haven't had it long enough to say much about it. Seems like a fast grower. I haven't styled it yet, so I'm thinking about entering it.Damian79 wrote:Thanks Ken

I’ve noted the 250mm “high” for the comp, but would like to clarify if there is a “width” limit as I’m considering entering a couple of Callistemon rafts,

Mojo, Squizz, Ken - all that arm-waving, but not even a MENTION for ACT? We have some of the best trees in the country here! Allright, we borrowed most of them, but it's got to count for something...

Hey guys
According to the rules - no updates before 1st April. I'd like to slip my Kunzea now and give it a prune before I allow more cold weather to settle in so it has a small window to get comfortable in its new home... is this okay?
Or is it just no updates on the forum but I can do work on my trees?
Thanks,
Mo

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.

I'm not THAT fragile mate! Just advice going on what I've heard, but I've not grown one myself. I've got a elm - I think it's a slow growing small leaf elm - that I was thinking of air-layering and doing a small tree with, but perhaps I need to read my own advice!! Hey Mo, Once you have submitted your contest entry and the initial pics then go for your life. It's not like there is a absolute start dateMoGanic wrote:Hey guys

Ken
So we can start as soon as we submit our stock in raw form ?
The way I read the rules was that work can only commence from the 1st April, that way it allows all entries to be submitted first before any work can be carried out. Sorry to be a pest, but could you clarify that please.
Also thanks Steven for clarifying my question earlier in this thread.
Cheers

Careful ken. I read the rules the same as Dave. You do t want to get someone disqualified. I won't be starting until the 1st. Although I have trunk chopped already.

• Work can be done between 1st April 2013 and 30th September 2014. That was cut and paste from the rules on the first page.

Here's a picture of those rafts for entry approval,
All so considering this...
And these more traditional candidates...
As I am considering multiple entries(great incentive to get my finger out and do something with these plants) another question springs to mind - is there a limit to the number of entries per person?

Re: AusBonsai Shohin Progression Competition 2013-2014
OK, so I answered my own question by paying more attention when I read the rules no limits to entries.
Another question - do the "rules" for Shohin (not the rules for the comp.) impose limits/ratios re the length of cascade on a Shohin?

Once the original photos submitted, it would be impossible to police anyway, so cannot see it as real issue. that is only 3 weeks away, so will mak little difference to the outcome anyway.
I suppose that if someone posted the initial tree this week, and then next updated with I did X.Y.Z. and posted new pics then we would have an issue.
