Like my other Casuarina, this one continues to grow despite the cold weather. I still need to remove some branches which will be done in the near future.

Ditto. They really do grow well all year this variety. Yeah, sooner than later is always good with casuarina. You don't want bulging or to lose branches down low. Though this is more prone to happen on littoralis and torulosa. I admire your patience at keeping cunninghamiana so compact. Personally I can't bring myself to do it. Maybe in time, like Bodhi says, my views will change on shohin. It is still nice to see your updates on cas varieties steven :) I too still have my stock in the same mix from Ray. But I will be repotting next month. I have only repotted one of them last year, and left about 30% soil intact. It is growing well after a significant cut back.

G'day,

This Casuarina has responded very well to pruning and shaping techniques. No loss of vigor from bending the branches down unless any of the foliage is let grow too long/high.
All Casuarina are pretty thirsty and this one is no exception. Now it is in a small pot I'll really need to be cautious that it doesn't dry out.
Over the next season I'll thin out the apex and will work on defining the foliage on the branches.

OK I got it...I observed that too. So I always try to chop them or bend them lower than the ones I want to grow...Thanks!
