African Olive
The tree was dug a couple of years ago. It was placed in Seasol for about two weeks, then planted into this container and just let grow.
Species name = African Olive
Height = 650mm
Obtained = Dug when doing an Olive dig with the School of Bonsai
Cost = Time and effort to go to the dig and extract this and a number of other trees.

Hi all,
Update on the Olive. There is good growth. The two main trunks are growing okay. I am leaving all the foliage on to thicken up the trunks as quick as I can, and to have more side branches to choose from.

Hi all,
I have been away for a month. I cut the foliage right back and did a some wiring before I went away. The tree has put on some more growth over the month. Hopefully I will be able to get some ramification going over this growing season.

Hi all,
This is an update on this tree. I potted the tree a little over a week ago. To hold the tree in the pot I drilled a horizontal hole through the base of the trunk and wired it in.
The photos don't show all the branch placement. When the photos are done toward the end on competition you will get a better idea of the branching.

When you see the photos I'm sure you will think the tree is dead. Why is the tree looking like this? In June I was talking on Olives at the School Of Bonsai. I decided to repot this Olive to show how to get it into a smaller, shallower pot. It was really not the right time of year to do this, but it was a good opportunity to go through this technique. The tree defoliated itself but I just kept up the Seasol. In recent days I have checked the small branches but cutting a few tips. There is still live tissue and I suspect the tree will return back to good health. So here are the photos.

Its a shame about the tree not leafing out for you Ray. In my opinion its possibly the best i have seen out of the trees shown so far.
